I paint mainly in acrylic & oils. I enjoy colour and texture and am always seeking to make my work appear loose and spontaneous. I try to steer away from realism and avoid labouring over a piece of work. My abstract work, usually painted in acrylic, is generally completed in one or two sessions. Portraiture, mainly in oils, can take much longer with repeated visits but I still strive to make the resulting painting appear loose and spontaneous More recently I have had fun making wood & cardboard constructions which are decorative as well as being contemplative for the viewer.

Many artists and movements have influenced my work, ranging from the St. Ives abstract artists to the Scottish colourists, and from the American expressionists to contemporary British artists.

Whilst I am essentially self-taught I have completed a three year Open College of the Arts painting course, and a C & G Ceramics course along the way.
